June 9, 2026 – VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR'S NOTICE
Protect Yourself From Home Improvement And Construction Scams
As warmer weather arrives, many homeowners begin planning outdoor improvements, repairs, and construction projects. Unfortunately, spring and summer also bring an increase in reports of contractor and home improvement scams throughout Ohio. While most contractors are honest professionals, residents should remain vigilant when approached by unfamiliar individuals offering services.
Residents should be cautious of contractors who:
- Appear unexpectedly at your door offering services.
- Claim they have "leftover materials" from another project.
- Pressure you to sign a contract immediately.
- Demand large upfront payments.
- Refuse to provide proof of insurance or references.
- Will not provide a written estimate or contract.
- Request payment in cash only.
Before hiring a contractor, residents are encouraged to:
- Obtain multiple written estimates.
- Verify references and prior work.
- Confirm that the contractor carries appropriate insurance.
- Read all contracts carefully before signing.
- Avoid paying the full project cost in advance.
- Keep copies of all agreements, receipts, and correspondence.
If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Taking a few extra steps before hiring a contractor can help protect you from financial loss and help ensure your project is completed properly.
Residents who believe they may have been the victim of a scam should contact local law enforcement and report the matter to the Ohio Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section.
The Village encourages all residents to exercise caution and conduct thorough research before entering into any home improvement or construction contract. A reputable contractor will welcome your questions and provide documentation supporting their qualifications.
Thank you for helping keep our community informed and protected.

May 1, 2026 - REGISTER FOR EMERGENCY ALERTS FOR CHAMPAIGN COUNTY
Dear Residents,
The Champaign Countywide 911 Center has shared an important update regarding the county’s emergency alert system.
Following the security breach that affected the county’s previous alerting system, CodeRED, in November, the county has taken steps to ensure a more secure and reliable method of delivering emergency notifications.
A new alerting platform, Everbridge, has been implemented. This system offers enhanced security, dependable performance, and a unified solution for sending emergency messages. Everbridge is trusted by millions of users across more than 200 countries and territories and incorporates over 325 security controls. It delivers real-time alerts and instructions through multiple channels, including SMS, email, desktop notifications, and voice calls.
Important: This system is separate from St. Paris Connect and requires its own registration. Signing up for one does not automatically enroll you in the other.
Please note that all residents must complete a new registration to receive alerts through Everbridge, even if you were previously signed up for CodeRED. Without registration, you will not receive emergency notifications.
Residents are strongly encouraged to complete registration as soon as possible to stay informed and protected.
